ABOUT

The Role of a Councillor

A councillor is a member of the Council and is normally elected for a term of four years.  People of any political or religious persuasion are eligible to become a councillor, although their personal views should not extend into their parish council work. A Councillor is an unpaid voluntary role.

They are elected to represent the interests of the local community as a whole and promote a harmonious local environment. The number of elected Councillors depends on the size of the area. In Tivetshall we are able to have 7 Councillors.

As a local Councillor you can become a voice for your community and make a real change. Councillors represent the interests of the communities they serve.

Local councillors have three main responsibilities:
• Decision-making
• Monitoring
• Getting involved locally

Contact the Clerk for more information.

Vice Chair

I have always lived in a village environment, moving here in 2015 from Bedfordshire. I worked in the motor industry for 20+ years.

My passion is horses. My interests are social history, protecting our environment and its wildlife, being part of a community.

I jointed this Parish Council in 2017. I have had training in community funding, attended monthly workshops learning how to create a neighbourhood plan. I strongly believe our villages should retain their characteristics and not lose their identities through excessive development.  As a Trustee I am part of the team running the Village Hall and organising fundraising events to maintain and enhance this great facility.

I moved to Tivetshall St Mary at the end of 2019 after decades of living in different countries around the world and various locations across the British Isles.

I have a degree in Public and Environmental Health and have over fifteen years’ experience working for and with various parish councils.

By joining Tivetshall Parish Council I hope to work for and enhance the area I now live in and call home.
